There comes a time for every parent when kids reach that awkward age. They aren’t exactly kids anymore, but they’re not exactly teenagers either — they’re TWEENs. It’s that preadolescent stage between ages 9-12 that planning tween birthday parties can become a challenge.
Maybe your child has outgrown firetrucks and princesses but isn’t quite past racing cars or rainbows and glitter. As a parent, how do you plan a party that won’t come off too “kiddie” for your tweenager?! You must find the exact balance to plan the perfect tween birthday party. Get Started
All right, this is going to be hard to hear: your baby isn’t a baby anymore! Chances are the guest of honor has already marked their calendar and the countdown is on. Start planning about four weeks out to ensure your guests have enough time to save the date! Things to consider:
The Theme
This is the most important mission for a successful tween birthday party! Don’t stress yourself out trying to decide this though, let your tween lead you here. The best theme is one that your kid loves and gets excited about.
Set a Date and Time
There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the perfect time and date. Does your tween’s birthday fall on a weekday or a weekend? Is school in session? Check a calendar and see what your family has going on and if there are any conflicting holidays before setting the date.
The Guest List
Once the date is decided, it’s time to nail down the guest list. How many guests you invite is going to determine the space needed to accommodate everyone for the big day. Does your tween have a big family and friends group? Another important thing to consider is if school is in session, are you planning on inviting the whole class? Putting together a physical list can be helpful when picking the venue.
Secure a Venue
Probably the second most important task on the Party Check List next to the theme is the venue. Will you host at home, or at another location like a fun center, playground, or entertainment venue?

The Food
Think about what the guest of honor loves to eat and go from there. Or keep the menu simple with finger foods and snacks. If you chose to host your party with us, we’ve got you covered! All of our party packages include two large pizzas and bottomless pitchers of soda, and we’ll provide the plate, cups, and napkins.
The Cake
Use the chosen theme to guide you with the cake design. Given enough time, most bakeries offer fully customizable options. You can even do half chocolate and half vanilla to keep everyone happy.
Birthday Goodie Bags
It’s customary to offer fun little goodie bags as a show of appreciation for all those who attend your tweenagers special day. Don’t go crazy making these, just add some fun little toys and treats. Don’t want to spend the time on this? That’s okay, you can add them to your party package at Allevity Entertainment.
Decorations
Que the theme again, it’s time to gather your decoration materials! Keep it simple and stick to one color for tablecloths, streamers, and other accent pieces. Host with us, and we’ll take care of the balloons and paper supplies for you!
The Week Before
The big day is quickly approaching. Have you planned any games or activities for the party? If you answered no, get to it! A tween party without entertainment is sure to turn chaotic (or worse, boring!), real quick. Games like Jenga, and Twister are always fun, or even a karaoke machine! Whatever you decide, plan a loose schedule of activities to keep the party flowing from beginning to end.
