Keep the Kids Engaged this Holiday Season

Thanksgiving is over and its full steam ahead into the holiday season. You may be thinking, “so many things to do, so many festivities, how will I find the time?”

From decorating and shopping to holiday activities and events around town, we can get so overwhelmed by everything there is to do, we forget to include the kids in all the planning and decision-making. Slow down, breathe, and let the family help! In addition to Aberdeen family fun at Allevity Entertainment, here are some more ideas to help you keep the kids engaged with you this holiday season.

Decorate Together

Spend the first-weekend planning and decorating (if you haven’t yet)!

We don’t know about you but decorating just gets us in that holiday spirit! Share that jolly feeling with the kids and throw some Christmas music on, bust out the decorations from storage and start unpacking. Once you have everything out in the open, ask the kids for their opinions on the decoration game plan.

Work together on deciding what will go where. Give the kids a measuring tape and have them figure out where the lights are going and how many strands they need. Lay out all the ornaments so everyone can pick their favorites before heading out to get the tree. And don’t forget to pit stop for any additional decorations, ornaments, or lights you may need to put the final touches on the house.

Gift Planning

Make gift-giving easier by having the kids write down three things they’d like to GIVE to someone else.

Whether it’s a friend, teacher, or family member, getting ideas from others on what to gift may help you pivot your ideas toward something you may have not considered before. It also reminds the family to be thinking of others this season, not just themselves. While you’re at it, have the family donate some of the things they don’t really use to less fortunate families. Giving back to the community is a great way to get the kids engaged in the meaning of Christmas and not just the “getting” part of it.

Letters to Santa

This timeless tradition can’t be overlooked!

Have each family member write a letter to Santa (you too, mom and dad). The kids can get some practice honing their writing skills while taking all the guesswork out of presents this year. You can even deliver them to us at Allevity Entertainment. Drop off your letters to Santa before December 19th and get a free $5 arcade game card just for stopping by! Use them right away or as a stocking stuffer, limit one per child.

Holiday Family Fun Night

Sleigh family night with a little Christmas Cheer.

Get the kids in the kitchen and spend the evening prepping your favorite baked goods. Blast your favorite holiday tunes, whip up some hot cocoa and bake some holiday cookies! Not only is this a great way to spend time together, but you can also prep little goodie bags for friends, family, teachers, and coworkers alike.  So, break out the rolling pin, cookie cutters, sprinkles, and frosting, and get decorating. Once the baking is done, get the family out of the house for a bit. Drive around town and check out all the Christmas lights.

With school out around the holidays, keeping the whole family engaged is a task in and of itself. That’s why at Allevity Entertainment we offer 12 days of Christmas fun for everyone with deals that won’t break the bank.  Challenge the kids to a game of laser tag or mini bowling, or take a spin on the bumper cars, then master the climbing wall. With three hours of unlimited attractions and a $17 arcade game card for only $28, the opportunities are endless.

Christmas Week

It’s crunch time! With Christmas landing on a weekend this year, it allows us a full week of last-minute holiday fun. If you couldn’t participate in any of the festivities mentioned above, this is the week! Luckily for you, we have a game plan:

Monday: Last day to drop off letters to Santa at Allevity

Tuesday: Last-minute Christmas Shopping

Wednesday: Winter Solstice – the shortest day of the year. It’s the perfect night for checking out all the Christmas lights in town, followed by baking cookies and wrapping presents with the family!

Friday: Free day for anything you may have forgotten, or maybe the family is rolling in and you need a night out? Allevity can help!

Saturday: Allevity Entertainment is open just for you! We’re hosting a family-friendly Christmas Eve Party from 10 am-2 pm with unlimited attractions and arcade games ALL DAY LONG for only $15 per person.
