Allevity - What's That?

As anyone who has ever started a business knows, at one point or another you’re faced with the question of what to name your business. Nothing too complicated, but not too simple either. Easy to spell, but descriptive in some way of what your business is, or what it does. So that probably leaves you wondering- what in the world is Allevity? And how does it relate to entertainment, games, and fun?

On the search to a name, we came across so many generic ideas and while many of the choices would have sufficed and been more than appropriate for us, we quickly realized we wanted more. The word Allevity was born from the first few letters of each of our children’s names, all put together. Our business is more than just a building with games and food. It is for our kids- and yours, and their kids someday, for years and years to come. It means investing into our community and seeing how we can positively impact the people here, and better their relationships with friends, coworkers, and family. Giving them a place to gather, connect, and make memories is essential to our purpose. The word Allevity also contains the word “levity”- which can mean “to bring lightness or silliness to an otherwise serious situation”. But during this time, in this situation where we could ALL use a bit (ok, well maybe a LOT) of levity, we are unable to provide that for you. A BIG part of our reason for opening and our core purpose is to be a place where people can come and forget about whatever not-so-fun things are happening in their life. We want to be their escape from hard things for just a little while. Which makes this such a hard pill to swallow. Because right now we can’t do that; we can’t be that for people. We don’t know where to turn or what to do next. We have an amazing group of team members that we think about, worry about, and that we hope are staying healthy and finding their way through this crisis, and we pray that we still have them when this all blows over. Before we decided to temporarily close, we had been open for a little over a month. Years of planning, months and months of hard work, long hours and sacrifice- all taken away (for the moment) in the blink of an eye. The unknown is the worst part. It will end, yes. But, when? And will there be anything left by the time it does? We can only hope.

So hope, we will. The difference between a hope and a wish is hope is the assurance and belief that you know without a shadow of a doubt that it will happen and you’re just patiently waiting. So, do we believe we will we get through this? Absolutely. And we know that when we can all gather together again, the reunion will be epic. We will all be so grateful and have a new appreciation for each other and for our freedom. And we will look back at these dark days and not ever wish them upon anyone but at the same time be grateful for the personal growth and character we have developed by going through it. And Allevity will be here for you all, providing the levity we all need on a daily basis and being a place where we can gather and connect and celebrate the chance to just BE with each other ❤️
